Presentation

Following traditional training in history (Masters in Byzantine history at Paris I, agrégation), Corinne Lefèvre decided in 1998 to shift her focus to Indian Studies: after obtaining a diploma in Persian from the INALCO (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales—National Institute for Eastern Languages and Civilizations), she completed a PhD in history at the EHESS in 2005, before joining the CEIAS as a Research Fellow in 2006.

Through her research, she revisits the political and cultural history of the Mughal Empire by replacing it back into the broader context of precolonial Muslim Asia (from Istanbul to Aceh, via the Deccan sultanates). To reach this goal, she draws on a wide array of sources (Indo-Persian literature, paintings, monuments, inscriptions, coins).

She is currently working on a history of the city of Delhi from the 13th to the 19th century.
