Presentation

 

He is an alumnus of Sciences Po Paris and of the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (Hindi) and holds a doctorate in Sociology. His doctoral research focused on a comparative analysis of the experience of upward social mobility in France, in India and in the United-States. He carried out his postdoctoral research as a member of the Equipe de recherche sur les inégalités sociales (ERIS), which is part of the Centre Maurice Halbwachs (EHESS/ENS/CNRS).

His book Entrer dans l’élite : Parcours de réussite en France, aux Etats-Unis et en Inde was published in 2012 by the Presses Universitaires de France. He also co-edited Justifier l’ordre social with Christophe Jaffrelot (PUF 2013). His book Grand Patron, Fils d’ouvrier was published by Le Seuil, in the "Raconter la vie" series. He is the co-author, with Serge Paugam, Bruno Cousin and Camila Giorgetti, of Ce que les riches pensent des pauvres (Le Seuil 2017), a comparative analysis of the representations of the poor by the inhabitants of upper-class neighborhoods in Paris, Delhi and São Paulo.

Jules Naudet is also member of the editorial board of SAMAJ as well as of La Vie des Idées.

He is currently devoting his research to the study of the Indian business elite. He also co-organizes the research seminar “Sociology of Inequalities in India” at the EHESS (along with Joël Cabalion, Mathieu Ferry, Odile Henry et Olivier Roueff).
